    Trainer Mode, a unique feature to VIRTSIMTM, allows the trainer to join the trainees on the floor and control every aspect of the exercise from within the scenario providing immediate training feedback.

    The trainer has a simple 3D object menu that appears only in his view allowing him to instantly:

    • Pause the action and freeze the AI characters, discuss potential tactical maneuvers, walk trainees through the chosen maneuver, and then restart the action
    • Float high above the exercise and fly overhead to analyze the exercise in real-time from a bird's eye view
    • Switch to any trainee's eye view, giving trainers a 1st person perspective of what each trainee is seeing or focusing on

    These features work together to offer instant feedback to trainers, giving them the opportunity to provide better instruction in-the-moment rather than minutes or hours after the exercise has concluded.

    AI characters have unique goals and behaviors that require them to react appropriately to trainees' live actions.

    AI characters choose movements from a library of motions that are blended together instantly to allow them to attack, retreat, tactically maneuver individually or as a team, and even engage in conversation with live participants. Live participants are able to give verbal commands to AI characters, such as “Get Down!” or “Hands in the Air” and the AI characters instantly respond appropriately. These commands can also be given in foreign languages for language training “with consequences!"

    AI civilians will run directly across firing lines between the trainees and AI combatants, simulating realistic behaviors that can be done in live fire training exercises.

    AI combatants can attack individually, attack in ambush teams, fire from rooftops as snipers, and hold/kill/release hostages among other behaviors. These aggressive behaviors are a reaction to the way in which trainees maneuver through scenarios, their scenario location, and overall operational speed.

    Explosives such as grenades and IEDs have customizable damage radiuses that kill, wound, or appropriately affect the characters and environment based on an object's proximity to the explosion.

    In IED training scenarios, trainees are required to identify and neutralize hidden IEDs:

    • Trainers can strategically place the IEDs anywhere in the scenario
    • In the trainer's view only, a red sphere indicates the trigger radius of each IED
    • Also in the trainer’s view only, a yellow sphere indicates the damage radius of each IED
    • IEDs detonate when any part of the trainee's body crosses the trigger radius or the trainer can detonate the IED at any time from the operator’s station
    • Trainees can also neutralize the IED by correctly identifying and communicating its location

    VIRTSIMTM's 3D high-resolution virtual scenarios achieve an unparalleled level of realism. The current close quarter battle (CQB) scenarios available are Modern Office Building, Shoot House, Apartment Complex, and Urban Scenarios with Multi-Story Buildings. Long range scenarios include Mideast Village, Northern Tribal Village Street with Snipers and Ambush, IED Street, Jungle, and Sea-based Oil Platform with Helipad.

    New scenarios can be designed upon request and uploaded to the system via an Internet connection. They can also be created and customized by the trainer (see Scenario Creator).

    The lighting of each scenario can be changed to allow for low-light or night-vision training exercises. Night vision is provided for all VIRTSIM scenarios for more intense training.

    All scenarios can be modified with VIRTSIM's Scenario Creator, permitting the operator to instantly move IEDs, walls, doorways and windows, and any other structural objects including vehicles and even landscapes like trees, piles of rubble, and more.

    Trainers design their own custom training scenarios with the easy-to-use Scenario Creator interface. AI characters can be added as combatants and civilians to be positioned anywhere in the virtual environment; and assigned goals and behaviors that allow them to further stress trainees.

    VIRTSIM safely simulates physical trauma via muscle stimulation. When a trainee is virtually killed or wounded, up to four muscles are stimulated to contract, making weapon control difficult.

    Lower level vibrations are used to indicate virtual barriers, such as walls, barrels, crates, or any other virtual object that would impede trainees in a real combat zone.

    Intelligent sensory feedback results in another layer of immersion, in that trainees "feel" and must adjust to obstructions in the combat zone as well as compensating for wounded warriors.
